Keywords doesn't have to be unique. You have to choose a keyword that people tend to use often when they're searching for services/products - in your case, classified ads. The number of searches that particular keyword gets is important and you also have to consider the competition. There are lots of tools that can help you like overture, google adwords.

Try these sites:

http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
Input a phrase, generates appropriate keywords

http://www.nichebot.com/
Tons of metrics, analysises (sp?) and suggestions for relevant keywords

http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/
Input the keyword and it will provide you information on related searches and the number of times this keyword was searched for in the last month

http://www.webconfs.com/
Variety of SEO tools including a keyword density checker

Hope this helps!

Oh, and don't forget about negative keywords too

Use keyword suggestion tool to select the right keyword to target. If your site is new target a semi-competitive keywords.

What are your users finding you under? Sometimes keywords and phrases can stem from that.

I imagine Adam in CowBoy dress, trying to make a horse drink water.

EDIT : I did the same mistake with that tools. Those tools are waste, especially when you are looking to market web related service. All webmasters search for those terms, so it adds search count/month. Finally when you achieve rank you get No / Less traffic than you expect.

Sorry Kirtan -- I won't be making anyone laugh anymore, due to a whining crybaby here who has no personality, much less a sense of humor and is driving people away from the forum who are trying to help others.

The most important part of keyword are optimized for and rank highly in search engines for keywords that people actually want to find. If no one is searching for your targeted keywords, it won't matter how highly the site is ranked in the search engines. This is actually the first part of any keyword strategy

You can use http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ for keyword suggestion. It shows the keywords per day for the previous month.

type in 'google adwords tool' in google and click on the first link that appears. It will bring you to the tool that shows search volume vs competition for keywords. This is an amazing tool to use.

Do you have webstats on your page? Did you check what keywords people are using to get to your site?

I also feel the keyword tools aren't effective anymore, everybody's using the same tools, the same keywords, feels like it's time to place more value on other factors, i.e. the content these keywords are used in.

It doesn`t matter if they are unique or not, just make sure they connect with the users of you site or what ever. Target the audience thats the best way to use it.
