Is it possibile to drop in google and yahoo from position 32 to position 100 because of the alt tags ?!? This was the single modification i've made.
I'm thinking of spam, but the keyword density its not so big.

Thanks in advance.

They are attributes, Not tags.

If you have used them as they should be used there is no reason you would drop in the rankings. What do you have in your alt attributes? A bunch of keywords? Or text describing the image?

If it's describing the image it shouldn't have a negative effect on your serps.

should have or should NOT have?, I thought SE's liked image attributes as long as they are not spam

Well, if you were only at position 32, you weren't all that stable to begin with. Algorithm updates, data refreshes, possibly detection of spammy tactics...those would all be factors that could contribute.

Put the alt attributes back in and see what happens (although I doubt much will.)

Of course, a new site in your niche could push you down in the rankings by as many pages as it has without any action on your part. Or, a site with links to yours may have gone down. I doubt alt attributes would have much effect on this, but SEO is fairly complex with a lot of factors, and one of these could have changed without you being aware of it.

I also guess the same. It is not necessarily the alt tags but some other external reason which resulted in the drop. Also if the alteration to alt tag is not proper (even if it is descritpion) then it might be the cause behind the drop.

there is no such thing as an alt "tag" so it cannot be the cause of anything !!!!!

Using Alt attributes is only factors to help. But actually, lots of things or factors you must consider.
