Google Traffic Question

I'm in the process of analyzing why my Google traffic has suddenly dipped 50%. I'm still being indexed, main page has a PR7, but search results now stink. When I do a "related" command in Google, I get a bunch of sites that have nothing to do with my site. I think this is because in my scramble to get links and improve my search results, I didn't really pay attention to the linking site's content. I'm thinking this is why my results are suffering as no major changes to the site have occurred preceeding the drop.

Would it be better NOT to have links in from sites that are unrelated or is it more important to have the link in no matter what? Any ideas for changing/effecting how a site is viewed?

As of today, a link is a link...for the most part. The exception to this is know "bad neighborhoods".
Do you do any kind of keyword tracking or anything so you know where you rank for certain keywords? If not, I would suggest you check out the free keyword tracking tools at www.digitalpoint.com

What's the website? Yes a link is a link, however if it's reciprocal link then no a link is not a link. If it's reciprocated then the other side should be related.

As of today everything I have seen has not proved that links need to be topic related to count. It may happen, but no one has hown that it has happened yet.

I've debated all the privacy issues enough on other forums...don't have time for that many posts again

u should note these also while getting back links :

the webpage should not be linking to more than approx. 100 pages ...
link:www.website.com is not link.html pages as it used to be earlier .....
