Hi
Checking our ranking recently on certain keywords, I found that when I used Firefox and typed into the Google search box the keyword we came top, however when I used IE7 and typed into Google search box we could not be found.

This happend also with other keywords, higer ranking when using Firefox????

Any ideas why

Dave

Hi Dave,

Browser has no bearing on ranking. Is the home page for one browser google. com whereas for the other it is google. co.uk (for example)? Or, are you signed in to your Google account (if you have one) when searching using one browser but not the other?

Hi back again.

I notice that when I used IE7 Google Text box top right, the page that appears has no Search check boxes under Google the typed search term page that appears, when I type in a keyword we do not appear on page1.

However when I went direct to Google.com, the page does have the check boxes with The Wedb checked and typing in the keyword we do appear on top.

Any idea why IE7 Google page is different with no Search check boxes, as this seems to make a difference to how we appear ranked from one that does.

Hope this makes sense

Dave

You could just be hitting a different datacenter or a different server in the same datacenter. That would explain it.

Rank checking is useless anyway, since it does vary from server to server and from datacenter to datacenter. If you're ranking where you're supposed to for what you're supposed to, then you'll see referrals in your site stats.

For some reason the Google Toolbar for IE and Firefox tend to use different datacenters even on the same computer.

I've noticed this myself.

the link temyong will give you a better overall idea of PR, etc... than the toolbars will.

I don't know. I don't think there's a correlation in terms of browser and search results.

I don't think there would be any influence of browser on the SERP's. Whether i use IE or MFF or Opera the results are same.
