Since I've been running my site ( about a year, currently; I had one under a different domain but things went sour with my host and registrar, leaving me SOL ), I get traffic from 15 to 20 known search engines, and pretty much in the same order, day after day, month after month.
It's always Google, then Google Images, normally MSN an then Yahoo although they trade place a lot, and then all the others, from AOL to DogPile and even Netscape. Google's web/text search outnumbers MSN and Yahoo combined by 3:1.
As of June 2, awstats shows 376 visits from Google Images, and 107 from Google text. It makes sense given the nature of my site, but it's interesting that they traded places all of a sudden.
I had been coding my images in a strange way, pointing to the frame and using an inline background image to display the actual jpeg; GI still sent a good deal of traffic. But on
VanGogh's advice, I came up with a better way to display the frames and use the img tag the way it was meant to be used, and made some other changes to my layout in the process, but within the span of about three days, Google Images is showing more love, even while the number of my pages Google itself indexes is falling.
