Analytics Code not working

Hi there,
I don't need Analytics under normal circumstances, but I put it on my blog to satisfy a curiosity question more than anything.
I followed the instructions for copying and pasting the Analytics code on Wednesday. It's now Friday and no data is showing up.
For those thinking that the comment tag in between the Analytics and the </body> tag is the issue, it's not. I had it after the comment tag as well and nothing happened.
Analytics says it's installed properly and that it's "waiting for data", but I know for a fact people have visited the site since then.
What else am I supposed to do?
Thanks.

Get more quality backlinks.
I seem to remember it taking quite a while for my tracking to start after I added the analytics code. What you've done is all there is to do though, there are no further steps.
Apart from the backlinks.

Mine took 24 hours. I think after I put the code in, there was a final step to turn it on?

I KNEW I had to get backlinks! It solves all!
Seriously, is there something I need to do in order to turn it on.

I'm pretty sure there is. I think you need to click some kind of confirmation after inserting the code into your site. I don't remember all the exact details cause my short term memory but I'm pretty sure there's something to turn on the absorption of data. It was pretty obvious, so if you go in there I'm sure you'll figure it out - check out the details of the web site (they let you list more than one) and it'll make itself apparent.

If you mean I had to check the status, John, I did that too.

My first analytics installation took less than 20 minutes to start sending data. 3 months later, after analytics has gotten more popular, it took almost 4 full days for the data to start being compiled. I think it might just be a problem on their end. Their getting busy all of the sudden and probably just need to increase server capacity.

Hmmm...that could be a possibility. It's not a big deal yet, though. I still have my Smarter Stats.

I think you may need to add the js in the html head rather than the bottom at the closing body tag. Having in the <head> tags worked for me. I think it needs to work its magic so it can see the page content.

Mine has always worked, with the code in the bottom, immediately before the closing body tag. That's where they recommend it, although it really shouldn't matter.

Hey Adam - it took about a week before my Analytics started working. I have no idea why but it did eventually come up and was accurate...

Weird it was working for me right away, but I think I was among the earlier people to use it. The js at the bottom is fine too.
It sounds like you did everything you're supposed to do so maybe the answer is a little more patience. I don't remember it being anything complicated to set up and it looks like you have the code in the same place I have mine.

Is it working now?
When I started my photo site, it came on instantly. I waited 24 hours, as it says that's how often the reports update, but I found it refreshed the "public" data every three hours or so. Then I started getting new reports every 24 hours.
I just created two new sites - blog.forrestcroce.com and exo-brain.com - as advised by some folks here who I owe a debt of gratitude to, and it took two or three days for these to come online.
I would bet Republikin is right about more people using the system with the new interface, and needing to add server capacity.

Adam I was wondering too if Analytics had started working. I know it was pretty fast for me, but it could simply be like Republikan said. More people on the system, more time before it kicks in.

After you install the code there is a link in the control panel that you have to click which verifies that the code is on the index page. If analytics doesnt confirm it on the index page then it will not activate. It may try to check it automatically after a certain time im not sure, whenever i install it i always click the link right away.
After its activated you will be waiting a minimum of 24 hours (48 hours max in my experience) to see your results.

I think you'll find at least some of the info in there is pretty useful.
