Bumping the Google cache?

I have some web pages I have needed to remove from my website. Unfortunately, of course, they are still left in the Google cache, where people can continue to read them...

My question is this... can I somehow alter the page Google has cached?

Might this just be a matter of restoring the original page - but modified or empty - so that the cache can pick it up and cache it again?

It's annoying that incorrect information must stay in the Google cache. Any help appreciated.

I would give that try and just be patient. You want G to come back to the same page and pick up new content, so it sounds like your best bet.

Your pages aren't in Alexa too are they?

when google comes back it will cache the new page - so put something up...

if the bot comes back to a 404 - it may save the cache till another round.....

Fastest way to get rid of it is change the page....

So about every how many days should Google visit my site and/or update its cache?

I'd forgotten all about Alexa, but, yes, the page is in Alexa. Could I use the same method - updating the info - to bump my cached page there?

Are there are other search engines with caches I should be worried about?

Thanks

Alexa has that "Way Back Machine" page. I would check to see how far back it has your site. I don't know that you can remove/replace those pages.

How long until Google updates/visits your site? That all depends on how many links you have pointing to your site. I know that my busiest site gets updated at least once a day, if not more.
