Meta tags and keywords will not help your rankings much. There is much more to ranking highly in search engines, and you can start learning about that using the following links. Report back tomorrow for a written test

Meta keywords have no affect whatsoever; too many people abused them. The meta description often shows up under your page title in the search results, but doesn't affect where you land in them.

For anybody to be able to give you advice, you'll need to share the url to your site. The keywords you're targeting wouldn't hurt, either, although a lot of people won't post those for fear of someone else competing against them.

True enough, everybody wants to be number one, but I think it's important to realize that 3rd or 4th isn't exactly chopped liver.

If things aren't quite working out the way you'd like, (in terms of conversion or whatever), then I think you'd be better off investing the time in tweaking your content and/or sales pitch rather than worrying about how to move up another notch or two.

In other words, if the site stays the same, (and people aren't buying from you now in the number three position), how is bumping the same product up a notch or two going to help?

In a case like this, you could well find that increased visibility simply increases the number of people who still aren't interested in the pitch.
