To be honest, you shouldn't be focusing on any one particular search engine. If you create a good "user centric" (tm) site with useful, unique content that attracts links naturally and is structured well, it will be well equipped to do well in any search engine.
The algorithms for the different engines will place more or less emphasis on different things, but they all work in the same way fundamentally.
To answer your other question though:
