Does subbmitting your site to search engines cost money? Also, how do you get a good rank?

Hi WuLabs,

It really all depends on the search engine. Many search engines and directories (like Google and DMOZ, I believe) allow you to submit your site for free. However, pretty much every search engine will give you "preferential" treatment if you pay, such as advertising or a higher ranking.

The best way is to get into DMOZ.org, you may post your URL to a number of categories, but for best results make sure there is a moderator for that subject, as it will get dealt with faster. Another tip for fast inclusion is to enter your URL in the regional category as well as your subject category within dmoz!!

Once here, you will find that google and yahoo, automatically include you in there search results - along with other not so popular search engines - through spider.

I never pay for search engine submission - with good quality keywords, and a well designed site you should get good rankings within 6-12 months, however buy paying for these services you will get a higher place faster - but for how long, that is the question?

PPC - pay per click is a good option, some of my clients have found this excellent, just make sure you arent paying over the odds for your click rate.

hope this help, just email me if you need any more info

the best way to get listed on search engines is to get other sites to link to you. if you do this, then search engine "spiders" that crawls the web and index pages, will find you and you'll get in instantly for free.

to boost your ranking, get more links, and submit to directories such as the ODP, dmoz.org.

other ways to boost your rankings is by optimising your site. inclusion of good title tags, targetted headings, meta-tags, alt image tags, and more, are all good ways to boost your rankings. once your site is primed and you're getting listed, then you'll see rankings go up and your popularity and traffic increase.

If you want altavista or lycos to index your site pages immediately, you would have to pay for that, and they guarantee to crawl your site once to twice a week. It will keep your page fresh in their database.

the best way to get listed fast and stay listed is to pay. you can do it all for free, and, if your pagerank on google reaches above (i think the current figure is) 6, then they recrawl you at least twice a week, and up to once a day if your rank gets super high.

thus, if you can get a very good pagerank for free by optimising, then paid submission is not necessary.

if however you want to be included NOW, and you want to be refreshed often and ensure that you are always up to date on their databases, then a paid submission is probably the best way forward

RE: Does submitting your site to search engines cost money? Also, how do you get a good rank?

I have used http://www.selfpromotion.com in the past for all the sites I have developed. It's now time (started on Monday) for me to once again use this site. Some like it, some don't, but it's done quite well for me as far as "get a good rank". It DOES take time... or maybe that's only for me, since I have to go in and actually "do" the meta-tags and any textual changes that may be in order.

Just a site that you may want to look into, it's a do-it-yourself method substantially aided by "tooter" (a wizard type application) to help you along the way. btw: all free.

Hi Mankiy,

Funny you should say that, considering that WuLabs and bubbles have been around for a bit longer than you have, hehe.
