I've never had a problem that way. If you have a site worth linking to, and people link to it (the backlinks Stephen was talking about), it will get indexed in its entirety in relatively short order.
If you throw up a low-grade site that's just a bunch of affiliate link or MFA stuff, well...you probably don't because your site sucks.
You missed Hirst's deeper point, Alex. Let's say your site does get indexed in its entirety. Let's say that somehow, some way, users manage to find your site. Then what? Are they going to stick around? Are they going to visit your other links? Is it interesting to them? No, no, and no. So you're at best going to draw "dead traffic". They show up, and they leave...but not in the way you want them to.
