Hello,

I just bought a domain yesterday and when I checked alexa it had a 40,000 ranking!! With tons of links, running a similar business.

If this a good thing or a bad thing for me?
Can I use this towards my advantage?

The only thing is , when I type in the domain. It shows a different domain ones it finds it.. Some weird redirection must of been goin down..

That means it was a well established website.

If it ranks 40,000 that means it gets alot of visitors.

If it shows backlinks that is even better. Less links you will have to buy for offsite SEO.

What is the domain name?

I think alexa ranking is a good thing if your site has rank less than 1000

BUT as I know they are planning to open new SE:: a9.com . So your good position in Alexa will bring you additional visitors from a9.com in the future. <-- I hope.

Personally I wouldn't trust alexa rankings.
You can simply redirect traffic to a domain, then watch the Alexa rank grow.

It is always good when you see your web site among Top 100,000 in Alexa. Did you register brand new domain or bought existing one?

it looks like the redirection has been used to increase the alexa ranking some... once you build your own website the ranking will go back to where it should be as an individual site.

the biggest problem i find with alexa is that the stats are easy to fake.

i know that alexa ~50,000 is about 200 uniques per day ... so the results are misleading even if not faked.

One of my sites was ranked just over 100000 wheni was getting 1000 uniques aday.

The easy way to increase ur ranking is to let ppl "hotlink" ur images
