Hi Folks,

I am about to release a new web site that I need to have ranked comfortably high in search engines. There are three key phrases that I will be going after and I am a bit rusty about what will make the rank stronger. Here are some questions I have:

1. I currently have about 25 web sites in my portfolio. I am thinking of creating a single page that will have keywords, and tags and the links to the site I want to promote, uploading that same page to all of the sites and then having the search engines index that particular page on every site I control. I am hoping that search engines will see that page with all the keywords and trace it back to the new site and rank my site high. Is this a good idea?

2. If the page is the same (same content on the page uploaded to all the different servers) but located on different servers, will the search engine think of it as SPAM or can I get away with this?

3. How often do you recommend that the search engine re index my site?

4. Any other creative suggestions to get ranked well in a variety of search engines outside of the traditional elements such as the Alt tags, Meta tags?

Thanks very much!

-------- If you are reffering to a site map, that is not a bad idea. The search engine spiders will follow these link to the rest of your site. I'm not sure what you mean by "single page that will have keywords, and tags and the links to the site I want to promote"

2. If the page is the same (same content on the page uploaded to all the different servers) but located on different servers, will the search engine think of it as SPAM or can I get away with this?

-------- If you are reffering to the same site map on on different servers and URLS, I think you will probably get away with it. However, don't link from one site map to the other if they have the exact same code (ex. site1/map.htm linkes to site2/map.htm

3. How often do you recommend that the search engine re index my site?

-------- Most of the major search engines (including google) will automatically re-spider/index your site about once a month. So after you are listed, you don't really need to resubmit to most of them.

4. Any other creative suggestions to get ranked well in a variety of search engines outside of the traditional elements such as the Alt tags, Meta tags?

Link popularity and content are very important for google. Also be sure to use a short and very keyword rich title for each of you pages. Also be sure to submit to the Open Directory.

Take a look at some of the older threads listed in this forum and you may also find some very useful information.

Anyone else have some input for him?

I kinda see what you mean, you want to make a site with keywords to your other sites, lets say you own a hosting site a humor site and a search engine site.
You want to make a page with keywords such as funny, hosting, search. And then link to your other sites.
That is a great way of promoting your site.

2. If the page is the same (same content on the page uploaded to all the different servers) but located on different servers, will the search engine think of it as SPAM or can I get away with this?

yea I say you can get away with it. I really dont think search engines are smart enough to detect this

3. How often do you recommend that the search engine re index my site?

yes, dave is right, google does its re-indexing once a month.

As to #4 I really have no clue.

well I actually guess Pol's idea is great, hes the man with the helpful article.

the idea of a single page crammed with keywords and phrases, links to pages etc etc is primarily a good one. but when you begin to think about it, you must be incrediably careful with it. cramming a page with keywords doesn't improve the rank for your whole site, but the rank for that PAGE. so the engines would link to that page, and thus not to any real content, but to a random page that will get people clicking back almost immediately.

when you say uploading that same page, you don't mean an identical page content wise. you mean a page suited to that particular site with the same FORMAT. thus, you won't be "done" for spamming, because the content of the pages will be different.

The trick should be to make the page seem like a "contents" page, like large menu, or something of that kind. put the keywords in the links to the pages, so the engines know what the pages are about. that should improve those pages ranks

engines should respider your site regularly, dependant upon your page rank. with google, ranks of, i think its 4+ are respidered every 2 days, with 6+ being respidered daily, according to estimations. the more links you have to your site, the more you will get spidered. the most important ideas behind optimisation are keywords, title tags, headings, alt image tags, inbound links, and content content content. present people with what they want and they'll stick around.

you could go in for things like css tricks on your pages in order to make things invisible to the user but show up on search engines, there are many things you can do to fool the engines into giving you a better rank, best to research these things though, could take a while to explain them all.

hope this helps!!
