The Other Search Engines

Hello,
I have had my site up for over a month, submitted my site to Google & DMOZ but am showing no results for my site's actual url in either location.

I had some issues with my Google submission that I believe I have resolved, so hopefully the next time the spiders come through I will be properly indexed.

My question is

If I'm not currently indexed in Google and haven't been reviewed/accepted by DMOZ can I still properly generate back links?

I've done a lot of publishing in Squidoo, with EzineArticles, HubPages that has included links to my site as well as left comments on other sites but am not seeing any of these back links generated when I use http://www.smartpagerank.com's back link function.

I am concerned I'm missing something basic here..

Please advise with any suggestions.

The basic thing you are missing is that it has only been a month, when it gets to 6 or 7 months you might have half a chance.

build more links while your waiting.. like the link in your sig doesn't count.. they must be clickable links and seen by the search engine spiders

Ohh.. I do realize I haven't had my site that long. I'm still learning how this is all working and saw my friend's backlinks (jump from 40 or so to over 200) in just about the same amount of time my site has been around.

Curious is all, in case others have some input. We'll see how things go with time as you advise as well.

DMOZ review each submission manually. As Chris said, it can take up to 6 months to get your link there. Having said that, it matters a bit but it's not important. Don't focus too much on that.

Hello. I dug a little more and found DMOZ's forums, which is helpful to me to just see that others are asking the same questions. Google the resource zone for the url if you are interested.

I am fine with the wait..

They do recommend resubmitting your site one more time if you haven't heard back in a month. They also have a great faq and other helpful messages on the board in case anyone else has questions. It's not a place to ask specific questions about one's site but is a good resource to know you're not alone with your questions.

Directories can take a while to be visible on google when you do the link:www.yoursite.com
It takes time, that's one of the lessons i have learnt so far. I

If you are setting up all your links like this one, no doubt you don't see an improvement.

1 month is not enough to wait for DMOZ. It takes more than half a year or more.

Backlinks and PR are updated timely by Google and it was updated last month as you say that your site is only one month old then you need to wait for the next update until create as link as possible and make website popular in search engines.

it takes some time before you see the true numbers of your site, just continue link building and gather quality backlinks and when the time comes you will see the progress on your site!

Your site also may got accepted at DMOZ if you follow their rules in submitting site.

Hi, I agree with ajcons. so are you working for links? while you are waiting you can do lots of off page optimization work for your site.

it takes some time to show up in google. But another good way to generate links is from forum posting

Absolutely. I've never been involved with (owning or creating content for) any site that's listed in DMOZ. Last time I checked, my WP hosted blog managed to "achieve" PageRank 5, without a DMOZ listing.

I'd suggest that either the links you're creating from these, ahem, free for all sites is the most generous way I can think of to describe them, aren't doing you a bit of good, or, that smart page rank has a broken link function. Maybe those are both true.
