My site, www.gamecow.com not gets around 150,000 hits a month, but only a small percent comes from search engines. How would i get a better ranking on search engines? I have heard that puting your link on other pages helps, but what if you can't do that? Are there other ways to get a better ranking?

yes

search engine optimisation is a big area but one of the main areas that se now look at is the number of sites that link to you. So get emailing sites which are similar to yours and set up a link exchange.

okay...very basics of optimisation, ask me for more details about any areas and i'll provide them.

what you need to do :

*title tags that are applicable to your site, if its a games site, make sure the title says "games," if they're free, then make sure its says "free," thus people will know what you offer.

*keywords - put in keywords tags and description tags so that serach engines get a good idea of what your site is about. make sure the keywords and description are targetted at your site.

*text keywords - repeat your keywords within the opening paragraph of your page, once or twice, and try to repeat them again further down the page. the more often the keyword appears, the better you'll rank for it, but don't just spam it and repeat it over and over in a line, caues that will get you blacklisted.

*alt-image tags - make sure you use them! use them to put keywords in to improve your rankings, search engines use them as additional info about your site, so they'll help you!!

*headings - use heading-formatted text, especially H1 and H2, because search engines treat them as important terms. if you can get your keywords in here, then you'll improve their rank

*link exchanges - get sites to link to you!! if you can, get your keywords in their link text. this will help you get spidered more often, and improve your ranking again. links are double-barrelled, they bring traffic in through clicks, and help search engines to find you and index you better.

anything else that i've missed out i'm sure someone else will add in. only had 5 mins to spare, so i hope that helps. if you want any more info / help on anything, feel free to PM me or just reply here with the info you want
