Google has announced that as of 9.30.2002 it will be discontinuing its Google Ad Words, a CPM-based text box advertising program. Google will now focus on offering the Google Ad Words Select program which is a bid-based CPC (cost-per-click) program. Google Ad Words Select allows marketers to gain placement on the right hand side of Google search results as well as in the results of syndication partners. Unlike Overture Google Ad Words Select uses click-through rate and CPC together to determine the ranking of ad slots.

Speaking of Google, How many of you use Ad Words Select by Google?

i have never used google adwords but i have heard good things about it - compared to overture especially

i read on another forum that one guy didnt get a great return but he was advertising a page which didnt clearly direct the visitor to his selling page so what did he expect

i personally prefer the cpc model but its just a personal preference - the popular keywords will be very expensive though. Overture has top bids at $5.00 - which is crazy although it is obviously profitable if they are willing to pay that amount of money

This is definitely great news for the advertisers, though certainly, it does mean that Google might need to take a pay cut. I was just wondering...this article didn't seem to mention the long horizontal bars (text advertisements) that showed up at the top of the search results in Google. If I'm not mistaken, they were on a CPM basis. Will Google's CPC advertisements be implemented there, or will they be taken out altogether?

And BTW, I have never used this program before, so I can't comment.

I have been using the same ad words with both Google and Overture.

The click through % rate for Overture is greather than Google on all keywords except 1, however Google has more total clicks on all sets of keywords I use.

I have also compared both with my server log files and they are very accurate in their counting of the click through.

i have been using google ad words select, overture and sprinks.com for my bro's website www.intourist-maldives.com

most of the visitors are coming from overture program and then from google. from sprinks.com we get very few.

i used kanoodle.com as well, but have stoped as we don't get enough visitors from them.

overture has grown very much and i don't think in a near future there will be any seach engine which can beat overture.
