I think that "no it's spam" - is a pretty silly response - because obviously a directory's value is dependent on having LOTS of quality pages.
If you search on Google, you'll find that most websites have more than one page listed. Some, the big ones, have 100s of millions of pages listed.
So in fact the reality is that search engines, directories and other link-driven institutions LOVE to have as much good data as they can get.
On the other hand, if you are planning to submit 10,000 robotically created pages which are just mass-synonym-gatherings all leading to the same 4 affiliate links to Sid's Casino or Mumtaz's Dating, then think again. In fact, just leave the internet and go somewhere you won't be hunted down and humiliated.
Now this brings me onto the key point: YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE PAGE - all crawlers, not just google, will download the page you submit, scan it for links and then go through those links, download those pages, scan them all for links, go through those links, download those pages, scan them all for links, go through those links, download those pages... blah, blah, blah, blah.
Thus it is a TOTAL waste of your time to sit submitting each page on your site over and over and over again to every directory you submit to - the proper method is to have (1) a proper hierarchical link structure on your pages, so that each page leads to the other pages and (2) a sitemap {you can use google's webmaster tools to make sitemaps and indeed to ensure google, the mother of all search engines, has your sitemap on file}.
If People insist that all submitted pages and links are surplus and spam, it is just as great a mistake to insist that all things are genuine information and do not annoy webmasters. If a person becomes attached to his desire to get traffic, it is a mistake because it cannot save him from failing to deliver good info. If he believes there is no legitimate way to get a lot of free traffic, it is also a mistake and it would be useless for him to practice the Way of Webmastery. If people assert that everything is good search marketing, that is a mistake, too. Buddha teaches the middle way transcending these prejudiced concepts, where duality merges into oneness.

If People insist that all things are empty and transitory, it is just as great a mistake to insist that all things are real and do not change. If a person becomes attached to his ego-personality, it is a mistake because it cannot save him from dissatisfaction or suffering. If he believes there is no ego, it is also a mistake and it would be useless for him to practice the Way of Truth. If people assert that everything is happiness, that is a mistake, too. Buddha teaches the middle way transcending these prejudiced concepts, where duality merges into oneness.
