The Other Search Engines

hi all... i've read through most of the threads here and got some great tips on submitting to the search engines... the one thing i'm not sure about, however, is how long does it take (hours, days, weeks????) to show up on Google, Hotbot, etc... i loaded my site with keywords and meta tags... any other suggestions would be much appreciated... i really need to get top 10 on the searches... i'm in a very competitive business and hope to get a leg up off the start

every se is different

google updates once a month so it can take anything up to 4 weeks depending on when you submit

alltheweb etc usually pick up your site a bit quicker..as does inktomi

it really does depend on the se

the best thing for you to do is to submit to things like ODP (dmoz.org) and yahoo (yahoo.com)

these are the directories, and inclusion in them will get you into the engines higher *usually* than you would be.

don't expect instant results over night. you'll get in, but it will take up to 4+ months for things like google. the more incomming links that you have to your site, and inclusion in the directories, will both help get you in quicker.

i doubt it will take 4 months
every site ive submitted has always been in the next update

has anyone else waited more than a month for a submission in google

my site, www.maldivescards.com is still not listed on Dmoz.com, it has been more than 4 - 5 months, i dont know why they are not listing my site.

dmoz can take longer since its a human edited directory

you should email the editor though and ask for an explanation - to be honest its unlikely youll get a response but you never know
