Probably a dumb question! But would like any advice all the same.

As a budding designer trying to bring in new work, search engine submissions completed etc. the next obvious step would be exchanging links with other web sites.

My question is who to approach, as I feel most site owners/administrators would frown upon this for fear of upsetting their exisiting web designers/developers.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!!

Hi JSL,

Requesting link exchanges is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to increase popularity and it would seem most savy webmasters do operate some kind of linking stratergy. Concentrate on getting links from other web design sites so that you have theamed backlinks.

In the eyes of Google not all links award the same weight, I wouldn't waste my time with getting links from sites that are not on the same theame as they will give little to no benifit at all.

Choose your anchor text wisely (the clickable part of the link) choosing heavily competative anchor text can be a vast drain on resources to obtain any results. Remember some websites will of been conducting SEO campaigns for such keywords for a long time and catching up the lost ground will be time comsuming. Try to find a less competative search phrase that contains your main keywords, this will help to optimise your main keywords and also stand a better chance of obtaining traffic easier.

Hope this helps and good luck with the campaign
