Microsoft new search engine 'Kumo' is seems to be coming on Jun 2nd. In a Microsoft Campus building in Redmond, Washington and seeing a TV screen with a countdown to Kumo’s launch and the countdown will be expired on Jun 2nd.

Do you think the Microsoft will rename the OfficeLive as OfficeKumo to reflect its new brand and different appearance?

This is the first I have heard of this. I am very interested to see what msn can come up with to compete with Google. Obviously they went with a whole new branding strategy to distance the search engine from msn. It seems they are trying to integrate kumo into an everyday word like google is. I look forward to seeing what their marketing strategy will be. Since Google has turned into the new ms-like superpower, I am rooting for msn to do well as the now underdog.

MSN search numbers in the USA are terrible (8 per cent). So anything they try is just about their last gasp. they have the dough to make it work but do they have the skill to catch up to the big G (who are over 60 per cent in the US).

I disagree about msn not having the skill to catch Google. They have the skill and know-how but they are too busy concentrating on a new operating system. They have yet to really make a serious push at reeling Google in. Obviously before they can make such a push they have to put a lot of pieces in place. MSN is likely biding their time waiting for the perfect chance to make a serious push. They probably aren't in a rush to start a war with the 800lb gorilla of the search industry. They know that once they make that push, Google will fight back with countless secret projects they have been working on.

Sounds interesting but "Kumo" will not able to compete "Google" for at least next 5 years I think, or even more.
