Yea, I heard about that. It's funny how everybody is trying to be just like google. Yahoo look exactly the same.

I heard before that they were going to use a natural language search, so I searched for Who is cptnwinky? and the first result came back like this...

Cptnwinky.com

Now maybe I'm a narcisist but I like the results already.

I read that Microsoft have actualy been conducting a mass crawl of Google's and Yahoo's index in the last couple of days to build up the new one.

Bloody M$. I was ranking high on the beta for some broad keywords!

Do we all think that the MSN search will go live for the start of next year or are we looking at much later?
Frankly i think based on how crap google is because of the way it favours long established sites with high links, and how poor Yahoo is because its almost the same as google, i think MSN could start having a real serious impact with this new search engine. I for one will certainly be using it rather than the other two.
I dont know about you lot but i think google and yahoo do not provide updated information because they just want to milk websites for as long as possible to maximise earning on pay per click. This is not what a search engine should be about.... the whole point of a search engine should be about getting the right results, most up to date, most relevant, now!. not lets update our data when we feel like it once in a blue moon so that we can make a killing on pay per click for as long as possible.
Meanwhile, im paying a £1 a click for certain keywords on google...what the feck is that about...how can £1 a click be realistic for a dam click through! joke imo

Bah... nice attempt at undermining Google, Microsoft. As far as I'm concerned, Google's already won me over.
There has been a lot of buzz about Microsoft wanting to wage search engine war with Google, so let's hope this somehow brings about an improvement in one of or both of their products!

I still use google but the stale state of google's results is already making me want to go elsewhere. I consider myself to be very anti Microsoft but I must say the beta is starting to show signs of the $100m they spent on it. The results are clean and fresh not something i've been able to say about google for a long time. With M$ integrating search into the desktop and browser for the next windows release, I really think google is looking at troubled times ahead.
I am hoping that the MSN beta will light a fire under google.

Anyone any idea when its likely to go live?
Original press i read said end of this year, then later i heard it was delayed until next year.
Looks like its ready now to me. The beta version works perfectly, i love it. I think google are in for a real beating from microsoft with this search engine.
I think the google boys should cash their stock chips in PDQ.

Actually, I've already noticed quite a few bugs with it. I managed to generate a JavaScript error by clicking the "+" multiple times to bring up the Search Builder, and I also had search results that (as hard as this is to believe considering the work that went into the engine) had page numbers at the bottom of "1 1 2 3 4..." on the first page, "1 1 2 3" on the second, and "1 1 2" on the third (no way to get to the fourth page even!).
So I hope they work that out...

One thing I can't wait for is when MSN makes a search bar to use with their new search. If its as good as Google then I'll definatly switch.
