The company that I work for recently shelled out the $300 necessary to get into the Yahoo directory. In the last month, we've had very little traffic from it.

Does anyone know whether the Yahoo Directory influences any other Search Engines, if so which ones and how much does it influence them?

We're just anxious to know that we're getting our moneys worth. Do you believe that inclusion in the directory is a good idea? Will it boost our traffic sufficiently to warrant the $300 spent on it each year?

Thankx in advance...

I think Yahoo have just changed their results, so that the directory is less importnat. Certainly in the past it used to be a massive source of traffic, but maybe now witht the changes it isn't so good. I'd be interested to hear if you get any more traffic soon as inclusion is something i've considered quite a few times.

Can you be listed in the directory and web search at the same time for the same site? I think it will only do 1, thats why I am no longer showing up for my keywords in the web search, but I show up 2nd in the directory for tucson web design. Weird, but after google updates, my other pages should rank really well. Won't that be at the end of this month? Yahoo is using google technology right? Google uses dmoz? I think thats how it all works

So, was the $300 I paid to get listed in the directory in vain? I hope not... It will spider all my other pages, so it doesnt really matter

does anyone know about this? will those people who paid get a refund / automatic inclusion in the google directory?

this could be a big thing for us because it means theres a possibility of us losing money on it...any information anyone can provide us with is much appreciated...

apaoli,

"So the big question remains -- should you pay $299 a year for a Yahoo directory listing now? I certainly see no benefit in doing so. In fact, I would even say that you might be better off *without* a directory listing". Jill Whalen
