It gets worse, all search engines will be dropping all sites with blue in them for 6 days per week to save on cpu and bandwidth usage, luckily we decided to go gay friendly a couple of weeks ago and went to a pink theme, very metro sexual.

that's because all they're interested in is link dropping/spamming sig links

Nope! Because I don't bother even checking such a vague and useless "metric".

Ten years ago I did, because then everybody who was searching saw the same results all of the time.

Now with multiple unsychronised datacentre YOU probably won't see the same result two days running.

I disagree with that. There are low PR websites that have high traffics compare to those that have high PR. PR and traffic are two different things. Same thing thing with SERP; PR has nothing to do with SERP.

Nah... changing the website design does not affect the keyword ranking at all. I have changed my website design and their colours many times, but never seen any impact on my websites keyword ranking in Google or other search engines.

Changing site design will not effect on the present website keyword ranking or position in SERP but one suggestion is:
If your old website is of two columns; left side content and right side navigation or links. Now if you change it reverse; left side navigation and right side content.
Next time when Google crawls, it will get different content because of change in columns and Google may give preference to some other keywords.

There are many factors that impact on the keyword ranking. Forums posting, Articles submission, blog walking, blog comments. These are the main factors that can influence on keyword ranking. By keyword ranking a website get more traffic from search engines.
