CSS is meant for styling and presentation, not SEO

There are plenty. You can use CSS to move your content above your navigation for the bot to eat . But the most popular is to decrease the size of the H1 tag so it can actually be used on a web page without the text "exploding" for the viewer because of its size.

99% of things you can do with CSS for SEO will be black-hat

Start with display: none, and color: white

ps: and yes, you can (and will) be penalized or banned for doing it.

color white on white background is a bit invisible

That qualifies as hidden text, and is explicitly forbidden since AltaVista or whatever search-engines of early 2000s

so what about

color:white; background-color:black;
or
color:white:background:transparent; so the parent background is shown ??

That's not hidden text!

You made a sweeping statement which is TOTALLY untrue

using display:none or setting the font colour to white is NOT going to get a site banned.

Using hidden text IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES may well get a site penalised, though the world of search engines has moved on since 2000 and the days of Alta-Vista, and it's about time some of you did.

"hidden text" is now a matter of course on untold hundreds of thousands of pages using tabbed interfaces or "drop down" menus

SEs have to identify the INTENT behind using a particular design or coding method, because spam is in the intent not simply the method used.

offtopic: I hope this thread is not a guide for little kids how to become a black hat seo experts. that's why i have no intention of writing working code examples.

My point was - there are very few legitimate usages for CSS to leverage your page SEO properties.

but, probably you are right - with smart use of css you can minimise the impact of tabbed interfaces, hover menus and other web2.0 bells-and-whistles at your seo rank. (ie: use class for hiding, instead of dynamic js generation)

Using CSS we can't do SEO. There is not use of CSS in SEO. CSS only use for styling fonts. To make common style in web site.

CSS are widely recognized and to use easily modified the web pages .This is probably the single most important reason for using CSS from an SEO perspective, and can have a significant impact on rankings.
