I've never understood the spamming of webmaster forums, basically anybody that can sort of manage to string a sentence together can have links in their sig, why waste everybodies time doing fake sigs and rubbish like that that just gets deleted.

That raises a point that I have been thinking about. I have never seen a page rank high on serps that was in bad English, regardless of the actual value of the facts in its contents.

I think the SE's must rank pages on a readability factor, along with other criteria. It would be easy to automatically analyse a page for poor spelling and grammar, and decide that surfers do not want to be offered pages that are hard to decipher.

That would lead one to expect that spam in broken English will not get indexed anyway, and will generate no back-links, and is therefore a complete waste of time.

However, I am only speculating. Does anybody know for sure?

Previously google was crap at spelling so people would put miss spelled words onto their site for the traffic, now google is good at spelling so can't imagine it would work nowadays, even all the Thai transliterations it gets right now

some tips are:
1.Best seo practice is to get at least one of your primary keywords in domain or sub domain name of your website.
2.Get your second or third keywords in your directory name and filename.
3.Keep your webpage free from any syntax error, declare document type at the beginning and validate your HTML and CSS because search engine don?t like pages with too many errors.
4.
Try to include your most important keyword phrases in heading tags on your page if you can but keep in mind it should not be exactly same as title of your page.
5.Give a short Title in of your page in 3-9 words (60-80 characters) maximum in length containing your primary keyword.
  1. there are many more tips but you need deep practices.

The best possible SEO practice is to get a minimum of one of your primary keywords in the domain or in the sub domain name of your site.

@Chris. Not being rude, and not joking, but having my keywords in my domain names does seem to help rankings on serps a lot.

Even if the above is my imagination, having your keyword in your domain name must help click-throughs. Surfers will naturally assume that if your domain name contains your keywords, then the contents of your site will be really relevant to those keywords.

If SEO means getting targetted traffic to interact with your website, then a keyword-rich domain name helps your mission.

Sorry to contradict somebody who knows more than I do!

Is that the ONLY place those "keywords" appear?

Not in page titles?
Not in anchor text anywhere?
Not in the body text (headings or otherwise)?
Not in alt attributes of image links to the page?

If anybody can show me a page that "ranks" PURELY on the hostname or the URI "keywords", I'll revisit the idea that domain names may have an impact on "ranking".

To be honest though I've thrown this challenge out quite a few times in the past 12 years or so and still nothing even remotely interesting never mind conclusive or convincing.

For Yahoo! certainly there is a small effect for words with very little competition (none), being in the "Information Architecture" as they dubbed the URI structure. But one that is outweighed by the content or the title.

Probably nobody can do that!

But what authority do you have for being so definite that keywords in domain names do not help rankings? The point being that search engine algorithms are kept secret, so empirical results are the only ones that count. Lots of people seem convinced from experience that keyword-rich domain names do help.

(By all means prove me wrong! Then I will have learned something more!)

having the keywords in your domain helps as much as having them in your title, headings, anchor text on inlinks, it's all pretty much the same, if you aint got the words on your site you wont be found for them, really simple.
