Interesting. That's likely to bring some major changes. Although I don't use AltaVista myself, it would be a shame if Overture change it completely as it's one of the oldest websites....
$80m sounds like quite a lot for AltaVista, though! It's not as if they are hugely profitable (if at all!) and now that Google has got the majority of the search market they don't seem to be a particularly good buy. I'm thinking perhaps its one (or more) of their patents that Overture are after as they were very clearly mentioned in the press release.
I just hope this isn't going to support an emerging monopoly by Overture in the market. They've certainly got quite a lot of power already...
