Wow, great stuff SiteTutor! I'm sure Alton will be very happy.

I agree with Most of the stuff you said. But if there was a SEO that knew everything perfect (including myself) we would be rich because we could get a top ranking every time and easy. The search engine game takes a lot of patience and site modification (to see what works best).

I disagree about the title tag length.

Quote:
There is some debate as to whether a very long title tag is a good thing or a bad thing when it comes to search engines. Some people are concerned that a very long title tag might result in the search engines deciding the page is a "spam page." I'm waffling on this issue right now. Based on the available (scanty!) evidence, my advice is to keep the title between 15 and 20 words. But you might want to try longer title tags on some of your pages, just to see what happens!
From my experience and I think the Title tag should no more than 6 words. The reason I say this is because of weight and relevancy. The more phrases you have in your title, the less relavant each individual word of phrase becomes. It also weighs the first words more heavily (why I suggested your title to be "Free Illinois Classifieds : Altonpost.net"

This does not mean this is the only phrase you can target. Don't try and target every phrase on one page. For example...
Do a search for "How to get listed in Google" in google (you would be surprised how many people search for this. My Google article is #4. http://www.free-webmaster-tools.com/Article-Google.htm Notice how the title is HOW TO GET
LISTED IN GOOGLE and the almost first line of text I have the same thing (top right). Try and target a different phrase on each page. (this does not mean you can't use similair keywords in the body on all of them (because some feel developing a theme can really help also).

Again, IMO most of your comments sitetutor are very good and thanks!

Thanks for all your advice Sitetudor and Cheif its really appreciated. I guess that I will go with some type of entrance page to my site that is dedicated to getting the most from the search engine spiders.

Jeff..
You are most welcome..

Just be sure your opening text paragraph is rich in keyword content.

How's the GOOGLE DANCE going for you? Are you finding that you are 'settling' better then last month in EngineRank?

BestRegards

you make me feel better. I have had the same thing happen and despite all my research, I felt like I had done something terribly wrong, and that I was the only one such a thing would happen to. Hadn't before seen any instances where people's sites would disappear off a search engine, when you knew darn well it was there.

It's worse when you see unmaintained sites of a year's duration persist, and yours goes bye-bye. Now that is something I don't understand AT ALL.

thanks, all.

This is an excellent free tool. Keeps you abreast of total indexed pages on all engines & also all inbound links to your site. Very nice tool

Market Leap does seem like a good tool!

By the way, back on "getting depressed"....... when you compare your site to another and you get depressed because yours is not that good, remember that your still looking through your eyes with your opinions and preconceived thoughts about good and bad. I might look at your site and the same one that you are comparing too and think that yours is better......why, because I'm looking through my eyes with my opinions, etc. And I might be comparing your site to mine and find your extremely good.....

Compare, make critical judgements.......then do your best!
