Google’s Popularity Continues To Grow:

The popularity of the Internet search engine Google continues to grow, according to figures released today.

The findings released today by web site analysis software provider OneStat.com show that Google’s global usage share accounts for more than 50 percent and has been growing 4.57 percent since March 14 2002, when it was 46.5 percent.

Yahoo is the second largest search engine with a global usage share of 19.88 percent. Altavista’s percentage, meanwhile, has dropped 2.6 percent during the same time period.

“Search engines can drive a lot of traffic to a website. Our software is the ultimate solution to measure traffic from search engines to a website. Each website owner can analyse what kind of search engines & keywords the visitors use to find a website,” said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of OneStat.com.

The 7 largest search engines on the web are:

1. Google (51.07%)
2. Yahoo (19.88%)
3. MSN Search (8.43%)
4. Terra Lycos (4.34%)
5. Altavista (3.81%)
6. Ixquick (2.34%)
7. AOL Search (2.18%)

%4.57? Whoa, That is a HUGE increase. If you think about how many searchs are made a day that must mean a couple million more searchs. I think I am going to be buying an adwords account soon.

I don't think counting Yahoo as a separate SE is very fair. Yahoo uses Google as their search engine, so you might as well add Yahoo's 19.88% to Google's figure. However, I'm not surprised at the blowout victory by Google. Most people I know go to them before any other search engine. However, it seems that those "compiled" search engines are making a name for themselves too, possibly explaining why SEs like Altavista and Ixquick aren't obsolete yet. Expect to see the new generation of search engines like Teoma up there soon, as they have potential.

I'm surprised that Overture and Alexa aren't up there somewhere. I mean, they pay webmasters to include their SE, and certainly some of those visitors must use the search feature on all those sites!

The only good use I've found for Altavista is Babelfish.

I think that makes sense, the others are just too advert heavy!

i use google because of its speed. its simple, concise, gives me what i want when i want it, and doens't try to sell me things totally unrelated to my search topic.

go google!! they should continue to grow i hope, and end up, with total WORLD DOMINATION!!! muhahahaha!
apologies for my outbursts

google thrives because its soo good. advert-light, simple design, fast response, and 2bn web-pages to search. updated 12+ times per year, thats a lot of updating, getting bigger all the time as well.

i go to google first, and...i dunno what after that cause i've always found a result. google is great, and i hope it continues to be so, i'm just hoping they don't sell out to yahoo...

whoa, if your listed in google you must get lots of hits a day then.
I use google all the time, its because of its simplicity and its fast searching time it also has a many many sites listed. Hmmm I guess the search engine business has already been taken over, no point competing against yahoo google and MSN.
