Hello,

My website has PR4, is listed on DMOZ, and has #1 position for certain keywords in all the three major search engines. But my problem is that I get more than 90% of my traffic from Google and less than 10% from both MSN and Yahoo combined.

Now the question: Is the market share of Google so high? Or I am doing something wrong that is making me lose traffic from Yahoo and MSN?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jat

just means more of your target audience uses Google.

yeah i would say your findings demonstrate that 90% of people use google, rather than the assumption that your site performs less well on MSN and Yahoo.

Yeah I agree to Chris. From your site it looks that your targeted audience are mostly India based. And they might uses Google search engine at large number. However; Google, MSN and Yahoo are the top search engines.

Well its good for you because having more traffic from Google means your ranking well. Its not easy to rank well in google if you have a competitive keyword.

Thank you all for replying and putting my mind at rest. It seems Google is doing pretty well, and all this talk of it losing ground in the SE race are premature.

Jat

Yahoo and Msn have got very low traffic because yahoo and msn prefer to expend the time in content creation and other tools online creation to get money ... :-o

I think he means Yahoo and MSN spend more time and money on developing sites, news, yahoo/msn messenger etc than search engines.

Thank you. But it would do me no harm to get more traffic from Yahoo and MSN? This thing keeps coming back to me that I am somehow losing out on some traffic at least.

Yahoo rarely updates their search results is why. I mean for example, the movie "Saw 3" has a s***load of new results in Google. But Yahoo has like 1 result for the movie despite every movie site reporting on it over the past 2 months. I can give a movie review to the IMDB (internet movie database) and have it appear in googles search results in less than 2 weeks whereas Yahoo won't have a clue about it until god knows when.

Yahoo needs to provide fresh content if they want people to use their search engine more often, and don't even get me started on MSN.Although MSN seems to be giving me much more high placement for my keywords than Google,I won't get much traffic since most people don't use MSN. I hope for the opposite but I doubt it.

From all that I have gathered so far I have come to the conclusion that a much bigger percentage of computer users search on Google in India as compared to say USA. Earlier the favorite was Yahoo I guess. And no one really uses MSN. AOL and Netscape are invisible.
