Does your website have a DMOZ listing ? Have you been approved recently ? Can you see yourself in the Google Directory also ?

Any people who have applied to DMOZ but never approved ? List your domains please !!

If you get into Dmoz, then your site will end up in Google Directory, eventually. That's the main benefit off getting into Dmoz, IMHO.

Do not waist your money for search engine optimization (SEO)! Optimize your site yourself. This is my method that works!

This is what you do to get listed on all the major search engines:

1. Submit your site to the engines one by one. Do not use automated search engine submission services. Be patient because it may take up to three months to get listed.

2. Link Popularity - Get as many people to link to your site! (Link Exchanges) You may not even need to list your site in the engines, because you may get listed anyway because other sites link back to yours.

3. Optimize your Meta tags. Include keywords in your title of your page that’s about your site. Make sure you have text on your index page that has keywords on it. Get a domain name that is relevant to your sites content and contains a good keyword. Do not list the same keywords over and over again trying to cheat the system.

4. Put links back to the major search engines.

I hope this helps.

Good luck with dmoz and their HUMAN editors!

Tech...I'm afraid SEO is a tad more complicated than that...but there's plenty or articles around to get you started on it if you're so inclined.

The company that I work for have their site listed in Dmoz...though it did take a while for it to happen, mainly because it is Human editors working as volunteers that work through the categories.

If you don't get listed, fast DON'T resubmit, because sites are processed in order received, and if you resubmit, you move to the back of the que, your impatience hurts you!!

Now that we're listed in Dmoz, we've improved in Google, and got into the Google Directory also. It's been worth the wait.

I personally think Dmoz is much better than Yahoo...it costs nothing, influences the Google results AND gives you an extra description sentance in Google - giving you a bigger listing than many of your competitors
This makes you seem more important than them, and I'm sure influences potential customers, especially if your description text is optimised to appeal to them.

Hope this helps a little
