Does anyone know hwo to get listed with dmoz? I've been

directory. Any shortcuts?

If you have submitted your site to the specified category, all you can do is wait (weeks to months), and resubmit again, but DO NOT SPAM the category with multiple submissions. Your site will simply get "red note" for spamming, and will not be listed until it is cleared.
There's no shortcuts or anything to get listed..

DO NOT RESUBMIT - resubmitting is bad advice. When you resubmit, the earlier submission is overwritten. If the editor reviews the suggested sites by date of submission (most do), you are putting yourself at a disadvantage, by moving your site to the bottom of the pile.

Multiple submissions to the same category will not get flagged as spam - they will just overwrite each other. Multiple submissions to different categories just wastes editors time in moving them or deleting them.

If your submission went through OK and it does not show up in after a reasonable wait eg >2 months), enquire at http://www.resource-zone.com/ re the status

hmm.. I do see a lot of sites getting red-flagged for category spamming and with a note like "do not ever list". And multiple submissions will stayed (not overwrite) in the unreviewed section until the editor decides what to do with them.

Best to simply submit your website and wait. That's just about all that you can do.

We have had our site waiting for a LONG time yet other sites have been listed in a couple of weeks. It all depends on the category I think.

Oh and I agree, don't resubmit. We followed that advice early on and now it just shows our site was submitted in October instead of the first time.

http://www.resource-zone.com/ was a great site!

Thanks for the tip! They answered within 1 day.

They should show the estimated que time in each category.
That would save them a lot of work and give us some kind
of idea on when we might be added. Maybe we all should try
to push that on them?

"They should show the estimated que time in each category"

Not going to happen - there is no que as such, just a pool of suggested sites.

I edit a small category - once I cleared the back log, sites now wait no more than 24 hrs for rejection (>50%) or listed. Other categories (especially commercial/shopping) attract so much spam its hard for an editor to volunteer their time to wade through it all... it may take a year to get to a site.

It is the editors responsibility to build the category - sources for that building come from Google (as an eg) search (a lot of sites are added that are never submitted), from the pool submitted sites - the word 'suggested sites' is being used more now, and from following links in sites that are already there.

The other reason is there can be no estimate of time to list is the volunteer nature of the editors - the pool of suggested sites can be reviewed any way the editor likes - they may:
* review by date of submission (resubmits move sites down)
* add the sites that look easy first - especailly those who appear to comply with the title and description guidelines (keywords and promotional description can hurt you, as the editor has to change it - the editor may choose to move on to the next site rather than deal with it now) (especially in my case as I tend to do this at the end of a full days work at my real job - I am sometimes tired and not in the mood to deal with what may be a good site, but a crappy description in the submission)
* ignore the pool of sites and go to Google to look for some good ones to build up the category.
* review them alphabeticaly by title or by URL

Okay....but wouldn't it be fair to review them by date of submission only? They still have to go through all of them in case they don't? If they just pick out some in any other way the total number of sites must be growing all the time...and it must be more time consuming for each new review?

I agree! Only submit your site to the directory once. Don't keep submitting your site, once you have submitted it. If you keep submitting your site you will only annoy DMOZ and your site could be banned altogether.

Just add it and wait. You may find that you have to wait 2 years or more. If you get in sooner, you should think you self lucky as they are rather slow.

I added my site about one and a half years ago, and I'm still not listed. Apparently my site is still in the list of sites awaiting approvel.

I guess I have to just wait and wait!!!
