It is a newbie question, but it's one that gets asked often so that's okay.
Alexa rank is a thoroughly meaningless ranking of sites based on "popularity". However, "popularity" is measured by the Alexa toolbar, which only works on IE and is known to have a weakness whereby visiting a site repeatedly will boost its short-term ranking. Because it's also a search engine toolbar, it has a tendency to be skewed toward SEO and web design-related sites.
In other words, don't even worry about anything it says.
