I think the more links out there pointing to your site the more times Googlebot will likely show up. If you update an rss feed often like a blog mediatbot will show up pretty fast to grab the new content.
I've heard Matt Cutts say that sites with higher PR will get a deeper crawl more often, though that would be Google's internal PR and not what you would see in a toolbar. I'm not really sure it's true either.
I would think larger more popular sites, particluarly ones that make frequent updates to pages will get spidered more often than a small static site that never changes.
It's really not all that important to get spidered often as long as you're in the index. The main benefit I would think is that any change you make will be reflected in the index sooner, but if you have a page that you've optimized and don't change it shouldn't matter how often Google visits that page. It will still be the same page in the index as the last time they crawled it.
