In order by the amount of traffic they send, at least according to awstats:
  1. Google (Images)
  2. Google
  3. Stumbleupon (Social Bookmark)
  4. Yahoo!
  5. MSN Search
  6. Windows Live
  7. Unknown search engines
  8. AOL
  9. Google (Groups)
  10. Dogpile
  11. Ask
  12. Google (cache)
  13. Blingo
  14. AltaVista
  15. Netscape
  16. A9
  17. InfoSpace
  18. Earth Link
  19. AT&T search (powered by Google)
  20. WebCrawler
  21. Excite
  22. MyWebSearch
I'm not sure why InfoSpace and EarthLink are the only engines that don't get links, but a more important question is probably why Microsoft's search engines are broken out onto two lines? Yahoo still wins if you combine them.

It's interesting that Stumble is considered a search engine; this is the "Links from an Internet Search Engine" report. They're building a huge database and getting free labor to call it "human edited," so I could see them moving in that direction ... but I'd guess half the pages and reviews are conflicts of interest. Photos tend to do pretty well on Stumble, though, so in the eyes of at least one open source project, it's the #2 search engine to Google, for my traffic. Even if it's more of a "show me a random site" application than a search engine.

People are constantly talking about submitting to search engines; I didn't submit to any of these 22 that have sent me traffic this month. With a little bit of patience, they all found me, organically, and send traffic.

So, there really isn't any point to this posting, except that I was a little shocked to see that InfoSpace, AltaVista, and Netscape are still in business. I would same the same thing about Excite, but I have a throw-away email address with them, everyone told me I was SOL when they went bankrupt, but nothing actually changed. On the other hand, if you add the Googles together, they outweigh everything else combined by at least ten to one.

Because the referrals can come from two different places, and because MSN.com and live.com can produce two very different sets of results (that's my theory, anyway):

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?...ca&FORM=LIVSOP
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=dogs&FORM=MSNH

SEFL tends to be the same way, although I have an older version of AWStats so it doesn't lump SU in there...#1 is big G by a long shot, then SU, then Yahoo! and MSN are just about even, then usually about 10-15 tier 2s depending on the week.

I had an older version of awstats and cpanel until about a week ago. The new one is kind of nice, although the biggest difference is that now I don't need to dig into "Web/FTP Stats" to get at awstats.

I can't remember the last time I've actually used MSN, and haven't used "Live" yet.

Thanks for the lists. We usually get traffic from a social media site, forums and online classified ads.

Forrest I see similar engines listed in my stats as well. The MSN/Live Search thing is relatively new. I only started noticing it last month, but I think that's when my version of awstats was upgraded.

del.icio.us will also show up as a search referral. I think the social media includes are also new and I'm not sure if they show up always or only when someone finds you after performing a search on the social media site.

John A9 is Amazon or at least an Amazon company.

That's what I thought. Don't even remember where I read about them. Does anybody use "A9"? I guess some must if it's making the two of your lists.
