If only I could turn back time. I can't believe I chose FP.

Now it would have to be Notepad (Windows) and Wordpad. Occasionally I will use Dreamweaver to do complex and mundane tasks, but apart from that, hard-core coding.

I use PHP Notepad for everything. Numbers the lines for easier finding when writing hundreds on lines of code and discover an error after running it.

Check it Out PHP Notepad

Best of all is its free.

I've recently tried Mozilla's Composer (free) and I think it's very good. Also, all the code is web compliant!

I think the first HTML I dabbled in was with FrontPage 97 (think that's what it was called). I let that site die when I changed ISPs and then tried HoTMetaL Pro. Used that for a couple of sites, which also died. A few years ago I did 2 different sites, one with Namo WebEdit and another with NetObjects Fusion. The Namo built site is still up (www.GrumpsPlace.com), but I hope to rebuild it soon. The NO F site I shut down and never used that program again.

About a year or so ago I started writing code with NoteTab Pro for some reason. I first re-edited a page of my forum portal to be used as a home page (www.TheMadModder.com), then wrote a few pages of the site using elements I have picked up here and there. I bought Macromedia Studio and really enjoy using Fireworks, but have not been able to break away from NoteTab Pro to use Dreamweaver. I've opened it a few times and tried to use it a couple, but I keep going back to the text editor.

I am now in the beginning of overhauling my flooring site (www.JMFloorCovering.com) using NoteTab Pro and what I am learning about XHTML, DIVs and CSS. I feel like it's just a beginning after all these years. I would like a better editor and have tried UltraEdit, but for now I'm using NoteTab.

Grump

Dreamweaver without even having to think about it and to say "text editor" is a little misleading because you can edit right from most of (if not all, I have not used all) the programs.

Frontpage has so much proprietary code that it really makes it a mess to work with if you are a hand-coder like myself, but if mastered correctly there are some very nice sites that can be made from it.

I have always used Dreamweaver! Don't think I would ever try or need to try anything else.
