I have done in this weekend an analyze on the way the new Google PR update has affected the way the Google PR update is distributing. After the last update I suspect some big changes so I decided to analyze them.

I run the analyze on 3574 directories ( contained in Website Submitter ) and found the results quite amazing, a big downgrade on each level of PR distribution.

Until Google has the biggest market share ( 59% USA, 96% in Germany ) we will have to play by their rules. One of these rules is the PR ranking system which is basically a ranking factor based on incomming links.

Until now PR is an indicator of how a website (in our case director) is positioned among other websites (directories). Or you think PR has no importance at all?

Toolbar PR has NOTHING to do with ranking, and correct Toolbar PR is NOT important at all.

Even the real PR value has little to do with ranking, it is simply one factor among more than 100.

The toolbar PR from Google toolbar is the Google Page Rank ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank ). I hope I am not rude but saying that PR has no importance is not a smart thing in my opinion.

Straight from the mouth of a Googler. You'll notice the reference to Toolbar PR in there. In particular, read the Update comment.

No one said PageRank has no importance; however, its importance has been greatly overstated, especially in the past few years. External PageRank (i.e. Toolbar PageRank) has no importance at all.

Ergo, your "study" is useless.

No it isn't

the PR as shown on the toolbar is an infrequently exported integer approximation of a google internal value that;

1 - we have no idea of the actual value

and

2 - we have no idea of the range of the values

If you read the original papers for PR it shows that the sum of ALL PR values is equal to 1. So as you can see from that a range of 0 to 10 is pretty useless

The idea that toolbar PR is important is a long standing myth and is also something that the insiders at Google (Googlers) (Matt Cutts, Brian White, Adam Lasnik, Vanessa Fox when she was at Google) have all pointed out on many occasions that the PR they talk about is NOT the toolbar version.

And repeat it.
The PR that Matt Cutts etc talk about is NOT toolbar PR it is the internal PR that only Google know the value of!

I am doing experiments and sometimes I am making these experiments public. That means I take new domains and usually apply some techniques for 6 month and test the results.

Maybe those who believe in selling links for toolbar PR will fade out after seeing your data.

I, for one, have other things in mind when running a directory. One reason I submit my links to directories is to get my site's indexed among other things (advertising, click through traffic, branding, etc). Not for toolbar PR.
