I see a lot of business directories announced on various directory, webmaster and seo forums. Almost all of them have casino websites on first page with bids of $1500 or so.

How many of you think the bidding directories are being operated by the casino sites?

Do you think it's worth submitting to bidding directories? If yes what is your criteria for saying the directory is worth submitting to?

it's true what you say about the casinos being always on top.

i usually submit only my travel sites to such directories. i select the directories by checking out their sub-categories (backlinks, relevant sites posted, Pr...) then and only then i submit.
not even thinking of making it to the 1st page. no way ever i'll pay so much money just to be on top of a bidding directory.
i'd rather buy more links from other niche sites

Well common sense should tell you that "bidding directories" exist only for one thing.

I don't, for me, it is just a waste of time, effort and MONEY. Why would you bid for something while there are a lot of FREEBIES around?

Are my eyes going fuzzy? Places where you can get listed on the front page, where the link juice is best, many times for a small nominal fee, and some newbs are insulting the idea? The guys who came up with the idea of bid for placement directories are geniuses. I agree that sooner or later G is going to take a stance on it, simply because it works, and works well.

But hey, you all feel free to never use the things. Less competition.

Chris: most of the bidding dirs actually do send traffic yes.

well, great for them, but except for the very few new ones, most are rather expensive

it's a great concept for the guys running it, but as we agree; google will filter them out for sure and then all the money is wasted

ok, ok ... I'll confess; I did some checking on them (long time ago) and found a few that were indeed good; high PR, almost no links yet and so still cheap, so I bought a couple of them and got a lot of great links very cheap indeed,

but for how long of course?

the best link I got has many more now and I'm down the page now, there are plenty of bids above me, to get back on top it's $75 (I already paid $25 the first time), this while the page has lost value and has much more links, so I just got lucky a few times ... it's not sustainable ... I don't think the links is still worth $25 now ...

the way to go is to pay for directories with good pr.
1 link from a PR6 can give you a PR6 if it has no more than 2 outgoing links and a PR5 for less than 15 outgoing links.

No, anything that wants your link and effort should be free and not the other way around.
