How important is it to be listed in Dmoz and Yahoo Directory if I wanted my site to rank well?

Better get listed there but I'm not sure that will help you at all. And I think that it is not the must even.

Is there a post with the guidelines to success?

I thought that the point was to add the site link to many directories and post it also in some forums, with the objective to get more visitors and also to rank up on the search engines. Isn't this right afterall?

I think Dmoz has some value but not from a traffic point of view, I can be just so hard to get in there these days.

It's not very useful but depending on the category where your link is, then you may get a link from a high PR site.

You won't get traffic from DMOZ and Yahoo Directory, but search engines..especially Google Value the links.

I've had absolutely no luck getting listed with DMOZ for my site, and don't think I'll even try again, after seeing that just about every chinese spammer that hits my site has 2-5 listings on DMOZ.

I'm listed in Dmoz and Yahoo (thought I would see if it mad any difference to rankings as there was so much talk about it).

All its done is allowed Google to use the DMOZ snippet which is rubbish, I had to put

Quote:
<meta name="robots" content="noodp" />
In the meta to stop SE using the snippet. But I suppose its better to be included in DMOZ than not.

DMOZ produce a rdf dump about weekly for these other directories to download and update when they want to. A few update weekly; some update monthly; a lot have not updated for years (For Google, its been almost 12 months since they updated).

HOWEVER, because of the duplicate content filters that serch engines use, you may or may not get benefit ffrom all the links from the DMOZ clones.

I don't think it makes some changes even though you get listed to DMOZ nor Yahoo....I think that you should focus more on link building rather!
