Hi All

My website is fairly new and most of it has been indexed by Google apart from the Search Engine Marketing section! I understand that if i bookmark the page in Social networking pages then this might help. Can anyone reccomend any good ones?

But it more likely won't! You would be better off getting some real links instead.

You do of course realise that using "+" characters in file names could actually cause problems with search queries!
The plus (+) is a reserved character (see sec 2.2 of RFC 2396) and is the replacement for a space in Encoded URIs so could cause 404 errors should the replace occur with a flename query.

This is the reply I got from my web developer...

"The php urlencode function replaces the spaces with ‘+’ so why would this cause a problem"

Or should I post this in the coding part of the forum?

Yep it certainly does that! and then of course the receiving end could also replace the "+"s with spaces

A dash (-) tends to be better for usability, because it can't get mistaken for anything else.

An underscore will probably work as well, too, but it's a little unusual, can look l like_an_underline_instead and make_links_hard_to read. It might confuse Google, also, because Google is for Geeks, and programmers like to prefix variable names with m_ as in m_variableName. Matt Cutts wrote about this a long time ago, it may or may not be the case today.

It's true the URL encode PHP function will translate a plus sign - this is a red flag that you shouldn't use one!!!
