I do love creating these, I just have one. Started as a way to learn PHP and mysql, Very fun project. Been playing with mine for over 3 years now. But other then that I find most directories to be nothing but spam. Even mine. Specially once it gets loaded with ADS, and adsense.
Those I find most usefull are Niche directories, but many eventually get greedy and spill out to other topics.
My directory with adsense makes about $30 a month...not that I am tryin to get rich here... lol.. but it does pay for my php, javascript, and other web related books.
I have looked at a ton of directories... after a while they all look alike. What I wanted to see is how to evolve a directory into something more then just a directory. At moment i been playing with the idea to extend a listing to be more then a listing...to create a profile full of detail... again...most of this I do, just to play and learn.... the chunk I am workin on now has to do with allowing watermark on images uploaded... fun fun fun.
Anyways... are there others here that have created directories from scratch? meaning not php link directory or some other pakage dirtectory  |
