I would vote for hub pages as no.1. The best thing about is that the your article/hub is indexed within 24 hours.

What you got cc73 is a great list of article directories.

Ezine Articles is a top priority directory you must submit with. Don't forget also the Web.2.0 such as Squido and Hubpages.

The top five article sites I could find based on audience size (using Quantcast) were:

1. Ezinearticles
2. Hubpages
3. Squidoo
4. Articlesbase
5. Buzzle

Ezine and Hubpages are close in total traffic, but I get far more clicks from Ezine.

The very best places to submit articles are sites related to yours that are asking for guest writers.

They must be Do follow article submission sites, such as GoArticles <http://www.goarticles.com/> or Ezine Articles <http://ezinearticles.com/>. In Ezine Articles <http://ezinearticles.com/>, we have to wait up to 7 days for articles to get submitted. If want to do it fast and don’t want to go through ant staff checks, GoArticles <http://www.goarticles.com/> will be a good choice.

I did a blog post about the free article directory that I am using. I like it because it allows you to put links in your article as long as it pertains to what you are writing about. Ezine articles does not let you do that. Plus you get paid too. So, if you want to find out more about it go to my website in my signature and once you get there click on blog at the top and you should be able to read it.
