Hi Friends,
We all know that directories are easiest way to build bac klinks. But,somehow I am listening or reading a lot that Search Engine doesn't prefer directory links any more.

I want to know how much of this is true?

Please give your opinion since I also provide directory submission service and do get scared listening/reading all this news.

NO! Its not dead. You can get huge amount of traffic with directory submissions, though it takes a while to get results. It usually takes three months or even more before the webmaster approves your site.

I don't think it's dead. Directory submission still works as a linkbuilding strategy. It just boils down to choosing the "quality" of directories where you submit your link to.

I too don't think as they are still helpful in gaining traffic and backlinks as well.

Dear Friend,

Some SEOs claim that directory submission ain’t what it used to be. While that is true to some extent, it is still possible to rank well in Google through directory submission. However, you must submit to quality directories and this is the tricky part. Directories abound but the majority of directories out there aren’t worth your time. If you manage to find quality directories to submit to, you can get your website to rank for competitive three word-long keyword phrases.

Best Regards,
Marklouis

No Directory submission is not dead. Actually Search engine took some times to take the sites from the directories.

I personally don't focus much on submitting to directories. I rather focus on other things that would really get me quality traffic.

I have been confused many times because of the different opinions and perspectives about directories. The way that I got my answer to this query is by trying it out myself... observing traffic tools and webmaster account from google has shown that directories are giving traffic to my site and backlinks as well but the numbers are not that great. I'd say out of 20 directories, only two or three are giving either of those two. so if you will still be going to submit in directories, you should see first if they receive traffic and have a PR or something cause otherwise, it would be a waste of money...

Yeah directory submission will result you of quality backlinks all over the internet,it will also help to improve your search engine rankings. The more incoming links you have pointing to your site, the easier it will be to claim the top search engine positions.
