I've read some comments where people say they really hate captchas.

On the other hand, some said it is to balance security and convenience for human visitors.

how about you? How would it affects you?

Captchas are "must" on sites with even low amount of traffic. I started my website without captcha but it took me too much time to delete bots comments and false accounts. The problem are captchas which are to hard too solve and I understand why people hate them. It is really annoying when you solve captcha from fifth attepmt.

Well, many put captcha to prevent or lessen spammy entries by bots.

They are now every where and most of visitors are use to of it. So for your own security its good to use captcha. Captcha gives you to proactive rather then reactive to spams etc.

yup use captcha... but as one said... don't make it too hard for your users... short and simple but not solvable by bots is the key balance.... try using it a few times yourself..

Captcha is certainly needed to combat spam. Once a system has been devised to automatically castrate spammers, then Captcha would no longer be needed.

On certain types of sites, Captcha is good. But it's not advisable to place it on a pay-for-review directories. Some people have eye defects and cannot read even the clearest Captcha. Using it might seem tantamount to driving away some potential paying clients.

captchas are a neccesity, it prevents from remote script clogging your link submissions and in turn helps in keeping spam out.

but some automated programs just bypass the captchas, not sure how ??? , but they do! i remember having loads of automated spam even when i had captchas turned on!

That is why I use http://recaptcha.net/ this system allows those with defects the ability to hear the words or numbers that need to be typed in.

Definitely it does. Without it, spammers using bots could easily put tons of junk on your site. Don't mind the other people who hate it, captcha is almost everywhere and is a must I believe for sites to have. I woudn't even be surprise if I need to solve some captcha before I get to pee.lol

I have nothing against captcha. I myself use it to prevent spammers from attacking my site. It works great.

Lving in current cyberworld witout CAPTCHA is like doing 6ex with prosttute without kondom.
4 me CAPTCHA is the best for those crapy spams.
