If you don't want to use a MySQL database, then you should just make html pages. However, I would say to not make a directory without a MySQL database.

In my opinion script I'm using is the best - I have had linkenginepro but once I removed it my statistics increased .

Errr... aren't we talking about the sort of directories with 10k+ entries? People submit their sites into a category. The title and 250 character description are taken from the website meta data. Perhaps a human reviewer rates the site and adds a couple of sentences of review.

Any other way would be hugely expensive, with humans doing work at which the computer excels.

The mysql is what moves stuff around and sorts it out, without it, erm, write each page as Chris said.

To which the answer might have been, "Not possible without MySQL unless you write the pages yourself."

However... http://phpweby.com/ does not specify any MySQL database, which suggests they might have written their own data handler.

Thanks for leaving me wiser than I was before!

The strange thing was that I read their install instructions, and it mentioned nothing about preparing any MySQL database. It left me to assume that perhaps they had SQLite embedded, or something similar.

Back to the topic of asking about directory scripts and themes, can you recommend a free and easy one?
