Although they are somewhat rude and unsympathetic, there is a public forum for those who want to communicate with Dmoz's editors on a variety of issues.

Because a Dmoz listing will help your ranking in Google -
it also helps it in:
Yahoo
Aol
Netscape
Earthlink
IWon
and many more....

The DMOZ Forum FAQ is pretty explicit about what is allowed to be discussed. I note there is a moderator appeal to stop doing things clearly excluded in the FAQ. As always rtff applies.

Would you mind telling me a specific instance? If you were an editor too you might hear out side of the story. You just have to read some of the posts to find out how really dumb some submitters are. Also, could you please edit the URL to go to http://resource-zone.com ? There is a TOS you have to agree to before entering and It'd probably be better if people read it.
[PS: No, actually I'm not plugging DMOZ and replying to every post that includes DMOZ in it...it just...um...happens ]

I am a Dmoz editor, i didnt visit that site.

Personal experience, you wont able to your submission status.

Recommendation, if no listing after couple of week since submission, may try to email the category editor.

alvinhan, that site is run BY DMOZ editors and they do let you know if your site has been reviewed yet or just waiting in line.

Any good tips on how to become an editor?

list down the categories you are expertised in, be more specify. search through those categories in dmoz, apply for those categories with no editor yet.

try to apply for a smaller category to edit.

good luck.

I consider myself lucky. I submitted to them and it took a few months... it's still not "up" there yet, but it's in there... hopefully they will get their database or whatever they are upgrading done soon so it will appear publicly....

You must be very lucky to get your site listed within DMOZ within only a few months.

I listed my site about one and a half years ago and my site is stilll not listed within DMOZ.

Apparently it is still in the list of sites to be approved for inclusion within the Directory.

I guess that I have to just wait another year or two, well maybe four or five at this rate. LOL

I think the time to get listed all depends on the editor. When I wanted to get borngamer.com listed, it took months and even then it ended up in a Casino/Gambling Consultants category.

However, getting webgamebuilder.com listed took less than a month. I was shocked, surprised and happy all at the same time.

I was just curios, how editors are changed at dmoz? I mean if
they choose an editor for a category and then he or she does
not a good job, is there some procedure to remove them?

Then, probably they should keep a list of would-be editors for
each category.

In my opinion DMOZ is a great idea but the maitenance of the
site and the site itself is not very great. Also some problems
I found is with the search engine. I hardly find some of my sites
in dmoz even if I am listed. I don't know how their search engine
works.

I have not checked yet the editors forum, just registered now.

I had a gardening site in there which I had submitted about 3 years ago.

I've been trying to get my newer site, www.christianbits.co.uk in there for a year, no luck.

Then I was forced to change the domain name of the older site, so I did all the things DMOZ recommend about submitting a change of details etc also I submitted a new entry for the new domain name just to make sure.

Now I don't have any sites in there

I don't blame the editors, it must be a mountain of work to keep up with...but I wonder if the whole 'open' concept works for this kind of thing.

Trouble is, as others have said, that DMOZ data is used by lots of other sites (its free to download), so not appearing in DMOZ is a bad thing.
