Anyone know of a way to speed up the process of getting listed in DMOZ?

you can visit the dmoz forum, and ask them the status of your submission. they will tell you if it has been rejected or still under review. not much you can do aside from that tho. make sure you don't continue to submit your site. every time you submit it to a category and you already submitted there you will be bumped to the back of the line. although some dmoz editors will just go through the list of sites to review and then click them randomly and only accept sites they like. each category is different, and the mods are all a little different.

I think content is pretty important if you want to be accepted by DMOZ. When you got regular content, you will get a higher chance of being listed.

Due to the overwhelming number of webmasters using that forum to check the status of their submissions, Dmoz actually did away with that service several weeks ago.

I have NOT been a big fan of DMOZ recently with their insanely bad review process...might get listed next month, maybe next year, or NEVER. It has become apparent they do not have enough people running that show, and even so they make it almost impossible to become an editor there. At least with the ungodly waiting times for review, they let you post on their forum asking your site's status....but alas, they don't have enough people to even respond to those kind of questions any more. PLEASE GOOGLE, BUY DMOZ!!!

Yeh this upsets me too!

I find a majority of the DMOZ editors are on high horses! The are power hungry and dont ever help webmasters out.

The thing is though you need to be listed in it!

I hope Google buys or anyone else for that matter and makes some BIG changes at DMOZ

All the Dmoz editors I know are pleasant and helpful enough, though I think as with any large organisation, you will always get the odd bad apple.

Those few individuals who bend or abuse the rules are probably dealt with quite quickly. However, webmasters who don't get listed, draw attention to the few shortcomings of the directory in order to explain to themselves why their sites didn't get in and so the bad reputation of Dmoz grows and is perpetuated.

You don't NEED to be listed at all, that's just pure fallacy. Just because Google pull a RDF from DMOZ every few months to seed their directoty does NOT give ODP data any "special" status. The majority of categories are often so deep in the structure they are unlikey to be crawled so any link pop value is 0 and they are so far removed from the home page and with so many links the PR (for what it's worth) passed is also 0.

No searchers are ever likely to find your site in there, DMOZ pages very rarely show up for keyword searches that are remotely competitive. Also Google currently seems to be dumping many DMOZ clones along with many crappy "made for adsense" directories in this current update.

So, pray do tell me, What is the advantage that a listing will give you. And please don't give me any misplaced cause and effect that this site ranks high because it has a DMOZ entry. Because there are far more factors than 1 directory listing to consider.

You may find it easier to get listed in a regional section, you are allowed two listings in the ODP, one in the main section and another in the regional section. Make sure you submit to the most relevant section and write your description from a third perspective with no superlatives.

After you do that, take up Voodoo and do a google search for shops that sell four leaf clothers.
