Is it worth the $299 a year to get listed in Yahoo?

I submitted my sites to DMOZ and Yahoo and never seem to get any luck. You can pay the $299 to get listed within 7 days. Is it worth it? Has anyone seen a spike in traffic, Google PR, or seen their site jump in the search engines?

Any directories that seem cheap, but deliver traffic?

Im not listed in either, but I wouldn't pay money to get listed in them either. Just be patient and it should happen in the end.

I wouldn't bother paying $299.

Our sites are not listed in the Yahoo! directory and they rank #1 for various terms. So for SEO purposes it won't help to my knowledge. As for the amount of traffic you'll receive, that's another story. Not sure if it'd be $300 worth of traffic!

This is a good question.

It is alot of money, but I would be interested to see what kind of spike you would get in traffic.....

Is webmaster-talk.com in the Yahoo directory?

Maybe 30 of us could chip in $10 each to get it listed and see what happens...

Of course, we would ask for a permanent link on webmaster-talk.com for that 1 year period or maybe set up Google revenue sharing for those 30 people who chip in......(using the Adsense revenue sharing hack on vBulletin.com)

i think is better to see how your site got listed in yahoo. From my experiences, my competitor who are listed in yahoo directory did not get better listing than me in the keywords that i wanted cause when your site is listed (or you pay to list) it will use the title that you use in the yahoo directory. It will appear in the search result in the title, so if you can the title of your site, it will never change in yahoo search.

I wouldn't pay. How much traffic could being listed in any directory give you. Im in DMOZ, and no "traffic spike".

To me, it seems a waste of time.

I know people on other forums have paid it and they say that it is alright as they are getting around 35 - 150 extra visitors a month.

But to me that is not good. You are paying anywhere from $0.10 - $1.00 per visitor.

Well, on top of the already questionable results, "Use of the Yahoo! Directory Submit program does not ensure that your submission will be accepted for inclusion in the Yahoo! Directory." And the $299 service costs is nonrefundable.

See link https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/reference/cost

If I understand this correctly, you put down $300 for a service that you may or may not receive. I hope Yahoo! has a gambling licence, because otherwise that sounds an awful lot like fraud to me.

i dont think the yahoo directory is worth being in anymore. now the link to your site is a referral link and they change your title tage to whatever they want. not only that, the title tag change they do make will hurt your SERP's if they remove your target keyword phrase. it seems that the individuals who review your site are college kids and have no idea.

well it all depends on the category you are submitting too .. If you the websites already their have high ranking you must submit you website there and try getting as much link juice as possible. the ILQ (Inbound Link Quality) of yahoo is very high that will certainly help you alot. and buy submitting to yahoo directory you just dont get 1 link .. i have about 22 yahoo webpages linking to my website. It will certainly help you alot.

Regards

Yes, we are listed in the Yahoo Web Directory. It was added a long time ago.

You won't get much traffic from it but the listing can be powerful in regards to getting an authority domain / directory linking to your website.

However, I don't submit most of my newer websites to the Yahoo Directory. $299 one time fee might be worth it, but once a year is to much IMO unless you have a high profit website...

I had the same question and was debating whether or not to pay the $299/year to get listed.

Does the yahoo search engine give priority to websites that are listed in the yahoo directory when returning search results???

No and if you are Yahoo will use your (poor) Title and Description from the directory in the SERP.

it's NOT $299 to get listed. It's $299 a YEAR for a review to see if your site is worth listing.

$299 pr year for a link would have been worth it if it provided massive traffic. But the Yahoo directory dont provide much traffic, use your money on something else.
