LookSmart paid twenty million dollars for Zeal in September of 2000. There are reports that LookSmart plans to shutdown Zeal on March 28, 2006. It is also being reported that LookSmart has no plans to try to sell Zeal, they are just going to shut it down and bring an end to Zeal, according to reports.
Many have long been predicting for a long time that LookSmart is going to be going out business, but they are still around. LookSmart now has most of their attention directed towards Furl.net, which is an online bookmarking service. LookSmart thinks Furl has a very bright future.
The downhill trip by LookSmart played a very large role in Zeal not being the success that they had hoped it would be.

The thing that really killed LookSmart (besides its overall crappiness and bloated pricing) is when MSN no longer used it as the primary source of search results.
