As long as the links get spidered and you use a search phrase you are targeting in the text that links to your site then they will help with SERP's submit to hundreds and then submit to some more.

Hi,

Directory links will not give you instant boost but it will certainly help you to move one step ahead.

Most importantly it gives you one way link which is most important recent times as google don't like reciprocal linking.

And the new directories getting good ranking after some time, so your listing in the directories will definitely help.

Only submitting into the directories one of our site has got the "fifth" position in google with a very competitive keyword.

So keep submitting in the directories but submit in the category.

Thanks

I consider free web directories as a VERY important part of my inbound links.
Even though they might be PR 0, and w/o any traffic, it's still a link - And every link counts.
Most of the webmasters running directories are actively trying to gain PR and/or traffic, so if you submit to enough PR 0 directories, odds are quite a few will have PR in a week, month or a year. Once submitted, the work is done. If you submit to enough directories, you WILL get many quality backlinks....

If you have another main linking strategy, this will add links from different IP's and such, making your "over-all-linking" look far better in the eyes of SE's.

It's worth it - every back link counts as they say - but don't rely on it as your only source of links.

One of the good things about directory links is that provided you submit to the right category, the text surrounding your link is usually relevant to the subject of your site. Also, at the start of their lifespan, when the owners are keen to get new links (ie before they start charging $10 for a link on a page 5 tiers deep and put people off), the pages are quite regularly updated, and get crawled more often.

Of course then they die off.

add your site in directories is always good. many of them have already SEO friendly links so you get a part of their PR strenght. But unfortunately many of the directories are gone after some months, so you have to keep adding every time in new ones. my experience with one of my site is a better pagerank and a better position in the search results as well. also there are some directories out there they send you beside the link and PR also visitors and this is IMO the most important.
