Hi, I’m currently planning on starting a site but I'm unsure of what host would fit my needs the best. I was looking at hostmonster but while reading the TOS I noticed they did not allow any type of foul language, and since I’m positive that some stuff contributed by users will contain foul language I have to cross hostmonster off my list.
I've read countless reviews but seems like all of them are getting pretty equal reviews, and I'm sure there’s a vast difference between some of them.
This is what I'm looking for: decent speeds, reliable and with attractive features like fantastico. I don't really want to pay more then 10$ each month, though I’ll gladly pay a ‘reasonable’ setup fee.

The two cheap shared hosts which I am familiar over the past year with are GoDaddy and Surpass Hosting. GoDaddy is cheaper and seems to have be a good value in terms of features and price. Surpass Hosting has cPanel and Fantastico, and GoDaddy has their own versions. I'm not familar with Fantastico, but if I'm guessing correctly, GoDaddy's Metropolis is a similar product. I've been very pleased with Surpass' email support so far, and I don't recall having to use GoDaddy's yet. I can't really recommend one over the other, because I've had minimal problems and minimal downtime with both.

I use GoDaddy for about six months and haven't had any problems so far. If you need to call customer service, you get a hold of a person and quickly.

Surpass looks like a good web host with decent priced hosting plans, even though I haven't heard much about Surpass before. Do you know if Surpass request setup fee's?

Hi,
This is roughly what I'm looking for:
- Sufficient disc space for my usage 5-10 GB
- Not over 10$ pr. month
- I'll pay a setup fee (not more then 30$)
- Bandwidth over 1000gb
- Rarely any down times
- Fairly quick support
- Features like fantastico would be a major +
- Decent server speeds

You can get 300 of disk space and 2000 bandwidth from Wwebhostingbuzz.com at about $3, I'm using them. They support via help desk, and usually respond within
1-2 hours.

Exactly what kind of site are you going to start? Few sites really need those kind of figures. You're quite likely limiting your search to budget hosting providers, without a need to do so.
Personally, I wouldn't pay a setup fee. They're non refundable, and quite large in comparison to the monthly fee.
In any case, Hostgator, which I've been using for years, should fit your requirements. They don't have a setup fee for their $9.95/month account. There is a number of $9.94 off coupons to be found out there. A search engine should easily reveal some of them.
Good luck!

Visitors will be from around the world, but highest percentage of visitors will probably be from the United States.

I thought I would need these kind of numbers because people will be able to submit content and certain uploads will be stored on the site if it's good enough (It's not a hosting site). Seems like you have a lot more knowledge on these type of things then me so I'll take you're word on it.

I wouldn't mind paying a setup fee on a good host (which I know is reliable)
I know they're non refundable that’s why I’m trying to be careful and pick a host I’m going to be satisfied with.

I looked into Hostgator and I think I might purchase a web host plan from them unless I find something better in the next days. They’re pricing seems pretty decent, they have some nice features, and it's great that I'm not required to pay a setup fee.
Thanks.

I strongly agree that you probably don't need 1TB (1000GB) of bandwidth, although 5GB of storage isn't unreasonable if you are storing files.

After some feedback I have altered some of my requirements (bandwidth especially)
- Sufficient disc space for my usage 2-5 GB
- Not over 10$ pr. month
- Bandwidth 300-400 GB or more
- Rarely any down times
- Fairly quick support
- Features like fantastico would be a major +
- Decent server speeds
The main purpose of the site is to allow everyone to submit content to the site and the best submission will get on the front page while the rest will get stored on another section of the site.
I'm pretty sure I will purchase a web hosting plan by gatorhost on either Saturday or Sunday, because I don't think I will manage to find a better suiting host.
Thanks for the help and all the reply's I have received.

Hi,
I decided to go with Gatorhost (purchased a plan from them yesterday)
I always read the TOS since I don’t want to come across any TOS violations. Thanks for all the comments and reply’s that have helped me, I’ve found this forum very helpful.
